About the Patterns

December Crochet Patterns

These are designed to be used with the “Snappy Organizer”.

Materials and Details

  • Yarn: less than 50 yards each of 4 different colors. Sample colors: RHSS Gold, Cherry, White, Black, Mango; RH Soft Toast
  • Crochet Hook: H (5mm)
  • Miscellaneous: Yarn needle, 2 large snaps to match the calendar, 2 tiny black buttons for the pupils, sewing needle, black thread

Tips

  • Numbers at the beginning of each line may refer to steps and not indicate number of rows.
  • Stitch count remains the same unless noted at end of row.

Turkey

Head 

1. This starts at the chin. With an H hook and brown yarn, ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (8sts)

2. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in the same st, hdc 6, 2hdc in last st. (10sts)

3. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in the same st, hdc 8, 2hdc in last st. (12sts)

4. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in the same st, hdc 10, 2hdc in last st. (14sts)

5. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in the same st, hdc 12, 2hdc in last st. (16sts)

6. Ch 1, turn, sc in the same st and in each st to end of row.

7. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 12, sc2tog. (14sts)

8. Change to orange yarn. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 10, sc2tog. (12sts)

9. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 8, sc2tog. (10sts)

10. Ch 2, turn, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of row.

11. Change to black yarn. Work this step in BLO. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

12. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 6, sc2tog. (8sts)

13. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

14. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, hdc 4, sc2tog. (6sts) Finish off and weave in ends.

Buckle: With a yarn needle, use a long piece of gold yarn to create a buckle by taking sts in a square shape in the middle of the hatband.

Hat Brim

1. With an H hook and black yarn, ch 17, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (16sts)

2. Ch 1, turn, 2sc in the same st, sc 14, 2sc in the last st. (18sts) Finish off, leaving a long tail few sewing the brim in place.

With the last, wider edge pointing down towards the bottom of the head, sew the hat brim so it overlaps the bottom of the hat band.

Eyes (make 2)

With an H hook and white yarn, create a magic circle of 5 sc sts (or preferred method for making a circle of 5 sc sts), pull closed and sl st to join. (5sts) Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing the eye in place.

Beak

1. leave a long tail in the beginning for sewing the top edge of the beak in place under the eyes when complete. With an H hook and gold yarn, ch 8, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (7sts)

2. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 3, sc2tog. (5sts)

3. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog. (3sts)

4. Ch 1, turn, sc3tog. Finish off and weave in end.

Waddle: With an H hook and red yarn, ch 8, 2hdc in the 2nd ch from hook, hdc in the next ch, sl st in each ch. Finish off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing the top edge of the waddle under the beak

Assembly

  • Follow the main calendar pattern to create the tiles. Attach the tiles to the calendar with brads or desired items.
  • See the main photo for sewing the turkey together. Use a yarn needle and each yarn tail to sew the pieces to the turkey head.
  • Snaps: Sew two coordinating snap pieces to the back of the hat brim section so they line up with the snaps on the organizer.
