Free Pattern: Loopy Layered Pouf

We all use bath poufs at our house and the net ones end up falling apart so I like making my own. Many of the crochet patterns for similar scrubbies can be time consuming. I wanted to make one that was fairly easy and could be made without a ton of concentration. Hey, these projects come in handy in the car, around family, and while watching a favorite show.
I make mine from 100% cotton and I have found they last a lot longer if they air dry instead of going through the dryer.

This is part of my “Weekly Wash” for 2025. Each Wednesday from March – November a new crochet pattern for a dishcloth, scrubbie, towel, or similar will be released. I hope you will enjoy these patterns too. The patterns are free to follow along on my blog, plus several of them have a paid pdf for a small fee.

Directions

Each pouf consists of 4 loopy circles which will be stacked and sewn together when complete.

Loopy Circle (make 5)

1. With an I hook and worsted weight cotton yarn, create a magic circle of 8 sc sts (or preferred method for creating a circle of 8 sc sts), pull closed and sl st to join. (8sts)

2. Ch 1, 2hdc in each st to end of round, sl st to join. (16sts)

3. *ch 10, sl st in the next st*, repeat to end of round. (16 loops)

4. This step is worked into the loops created by the ch 10 on the previous round. *ch 5, sl st in the next loop, ch 5, sl st in the same st on the circle as the sl st from the previous round*, repeat to end of round. Finish off and weave in ends.

Repeat for each loopy circle until 5 circles are complete.

Flower

1. With an I hook and worsted weight cotton yarn, create a magic circle of 5 sc sts (or preferred method for creating a circle of 5 sc sts), pull closed and sl st to join. (5sts)

2. (ch 2, 2dc, ch 2, sl st) in the same st, *(ch 2, 2dc, ch 2, sl st) in the next t*, repeat to end of round. (5 petals)

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing the flower to the pouf.

Assembly

Fold each circle in half. Stack the circles. With a yarn needle and matching yarn, sew the centers together as snug as possible. See photos below.
