Featured Free Pattern: Basketweave Kitchen Washcloths

Maybe it is because I am a basket weaver, but I have always loved the look of the basket weave crochet stitch. If you can work front and back post sts, you can do this stitch. I went looking for a pattern and found this easy one by Reese Dixon. It works up quickly, takes little concentration (a huge plus for working in the car) and produces a nice looking, thick cloth.

Materials

Cotton yarn in choice of color (s)

H or I Crochet Hook. Note: the pattern didn’t mention which hook to use so I made one with an H and one with an I. Both turned out pretty close in size. The I was just a little looser.

Yarn needle for weaving in ends.

I added a border to the sample done in variegated yarn to see which way I preferred. I think it looks good with or without the border.

Border: Once cloth is finished, do not cut the yarn. Ch 1, sc in same st, sc evenly around outer edge of cloth, working (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner. Sl st to join when round is complete. Finish off and weave in end.

As part of my quest to work on gifts throughout the year I will be sharing a different scrubbie pattern each week throughout 2015.

All featured scrubbie patterns will be on the “DIY cleaning & Organizing” Board.
