SNAPPY TOTS FREE CROCHET PATTERN

Kitchen Sunflowers Trivet

A bright layered sunflower to bring a little fall sunshine to your kitchen.
Crochet Kitchen Sunflowers Trivet by Snappy Tots

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, and sunflowers are one of those happy little things that seem to fit right in. A few years ago I created a sunflower kitchen set for one of our gift events and just kept adding pieces because they were so much fun to make.

This Kitchen Sunflowers Trivet is the finishing touch for the set. It has three layers of petals, a thick center and plenty of cheerful sunflower texture. Use it under a hot dish, add it to a fall table setting, or make the whole sunflower set for a colorful kitchen gift.

This project starts at the center of the flower. I have included two options for the center in case you would prefer a post stitch, thicker center or one made from regular hdc sts.

Center Option A

1. With an H hook and ww yarn (brown or color of choice), create a circle of 8 sc sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 8 sc sts), pull closed and sl st in first st to join. (8sts)

2. Ch 1, 2sc in each st to end of round, sl st to join. (16sts)

3. Ch 1, *hdc, 2hdc in next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (24sts)

4. Ch 1, *FPDC around each of the next 3 posts, 2FPDC around the next post*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (30sts)

6. Ch 1, *FPDC around each of the next 5 posts, 2FPDC around the next post*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (42sts)

7. Work this round in BLO. Ch 1, *hdc 6, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (48sts)

8. Work this round in BLO. Ch 1, *hdc 7, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (54sts) Finish off and weave in ends.

Petals

The back round of petals is worked first.

With an H hook, attach one strand of yellow yarn (or color of choice) to any st on the last round (outer edge) of the center.

Middle Round of Petals

This round is worked into the remaining loops from step 8.

Placement Tip: Choose a remaining loop that is in the middle of a petal from the previous round. This will stagger the petals.

With an H hook, attach one strand of yellow yarn (yellow and white variegated in sample) to any remaining loop. Choose one that is in the middle of a petal from the previous round. This will stagger the petals.

Ch 2, (dc, tr) in same st, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, (tr, dc, ch 2, sl st) in next st, sl st 2, (one petal complete), *ch 2, (dc, tr) in same st, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, (tr, dc, ch 2, sl st) in next st, sl st 2*, repeat to end of round. Finish off and weave in end. (16 petals)
