I hope you will enjoy this latest snappy pattern. The blocks are designed to create a blanket, but two sewn together would make a cute pillow or bag.

Colors

When designing this piece, I chose colors to match my mom’s house. I thought it would be pretty to create a blanket with blocks made from the same colors, but in different sequences. See my color plan for the blanket at the end of this pattern.

Substitute colors as desired.

Cream = CR

Gold = GD

Blue = BL

Rose = RO

Green = GR

Orange = OR

  1. Change to CR. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, *(sc, 2dc) in next st, sk 2*,  repeat until 2 sts remain (after last sk 2), sc in next st, hdc in last st.
  2. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, *(sc, 2dc) in next st, sk 2*,  repeat until 2 sts remain (after last sk 2), sc in next st, hdc in last st.
  1. This step is worked around the outer edge of the square. Ch 1, turn, 3sc in same st, sc 25, 3sc in last st.

Working down the side of the piece, sc 25 sts evenly spaced.

Tip for evenly spacing the sts on the side: sc 2 in the edge of first 2-row striped, sc 3 in the edge of each stripe until 1 stripe remains, sc 2in the edge of the last stripe.

3sc in first st of bottom row, sc 25, 3sc in last st.

Working up the side of the piece, sc 25 sts evenly spaced. Sl st in the first st of the round to join. (112sts)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Measurement: At this point, the piece should measure 8” square.

For steps 20-23 the beginning ch counts as a stitch.

  1. Attach OR yarn to a middle st at one corner. Ch 2, (hdc, ch 2, 2hdc) in same st, sk 1, hdc 25 in BLO, sk 1, *(2hdc, ch 2, 2hdc) in next st, sk 1, hdc 25 in BLO, sk 1* repeat to end of round, sl st in first st to join. Sl st to  corner space.
  1. Ch 2, (dc, ch 2, 2dc) in same space, sk 1, dc 27, sk 1, *(2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in corner space, sk 1, dc 27, sk 1*, repeat to end of round, sl st in first st to join. Finish off and weave in ends.

Measurement: At this point, the piece should measure 10.5” square.

  1. TIP: I highly suggest changing colors for this round, as shown in the pattern. It helps show off the ridge created by working the post sts of this step.

Attach CR yarn to any corner space. Ch 2, ( dc, ch 2, 2dc) in same space, sk 1 post, BPDC 29, sk 1 post, *(2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in corner space, sk 1 post, BPDC 29, sk 1 post*, repeat to end of round, sl st in first st to join. Sl st to corner space.

Note: At this point, measure your piece. It if is running big, either skip to step 24 or substitute the dc sts with hdc on step 23, depending on the measurement.

  1. Ch 2, (dc, ch 2, 2dc) in same space, sk 1, dc 31, sk 1, *(2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in corner space, sk 1, dc 31, sk 1*, repeat to end of round, sl st in first st to join. Sl st to corner space.
  1. Ch 1, 5sc in corner, sk 1, sc 34, *5sc in corner, sk 1*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. Finish off and weave in ends.
