Happy Projects By Favorite Designers, Vol. 2

It is so wonderful when you come across happy, positive people who genuinely try to help those around them. I have grown as a person and designer because of the many outstanding people I have met through crochet, crafting and yes, social media.

I am on a quest to create some happy moments and would love to share with all of you some fabulous designers trying to do the same. I asked the following designers to share a few thoughts and some of the happy crochet patterns. They also are offering us all some free crochet patterns, plus some are having a pattern sale.

Where are they from, who has the most WIPs (works in progress) and what are their favorite happy patterns? Please take a few minutes to get to know them better. I hope you will check out their sites and follow them for more happy moments.

What is your day to day life right now? “Since I also work for my local school district as a technology coach for teachers, my days have been busy as they make the switch to online learning. I also have two kids at home learning and a husband home teleworking.”

How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “Since I am still working from home, I do have to get up and stick to a basic schedule. My best piece of advice is to just remain flexible and ready to adjust. If everything doesn’t get done or doesn’t get done perfectly, that is okay. The most important thing right now is staying healthy and keeping our families safe. We try to check in with family and friends daily to just make sure everyone is hanging in there.”

How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? I can crochet anywhere. I really like to be around my family, so I like that I can crochet with my kids and husband around or I can take it with me anywhere.

What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? I prefer bulky yarns and solid colors.

What is your day to day life like right now? “Our new routine starts with getting two of my kids set up with their daily school work, getting them breakfast (which they normally eat at school), and then I work or clean while they do that (and of course I help them as needed). I work from home anyway, since I design patterns, so it really hasn’t changed much more than my morning routine. Now I get more time with my kids and more opportunity to see their amazing brains at work!”

How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “I’m honestly just taking it one day at a time. Being a creative makes it pretty easy to entertain myself and my kids, so I just keep thinking of fun things to do and just enjoying the moments.”

How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? Organized chaos! 😂

What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? I love plant based fibers best… and I love glitter yarns!

We are not eating out or even going out right now, but it is forcing me to do more cooking and we have been eating better than ever. Since we are not running errands in the evening, instead we snuggle up as a family and watch a movie. I am not sure when the last time my husband and I was able to snuggle up on the couch.”

They gave me a lot of ideas and now I am creating several quick and easy patterns each week to fulfill their requests.”

What is your day to day life right now? “In addition to blogging and designing, I’m a college professor. Our school is now operating online and I’ve been working from a makeshift home office in my bedroom. My cats absolutely love it! They do not usually get to spend this much time with me during the day. They nap next to me so I can cuddle with them between meetings and activities.”

How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “I find that it’s helpful to get up, shower, and get dressed every morning rather than staying in pajamas all day. I usually work in my office (also known as the bedroom) until lunch and then my special guy (who is working from the living room) and I eat together before going back to work. I have a few friends that I text with regularly throughout the day. We send each other funny memes and we also have a rule that there are no “news updates” after 10 p.m. so everyone can get a good night’s rest. I’ve also been talking to my parents more regularly on the phone so we can check in while we can’t visit each other.”

How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “My blog is called Underground Crafter because I usually do most of my crocheting and knitting underground while commuting to and from work on the New York City subways. When I’m crafting at home, I usually work in my bed or on a chair in the living room.”

What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? “I love all types of yarn but I’m most drawn to colorful yarns.”

What is your day to day life right now? “As I work from home, I kept my alarm clock turned on Mo-Fr and get up and have my regular day. I love working out in the morning. So I keep that routine. Same is true for my nutrition and work schedule. Luckily I have 2 amazing teen boys who helpful and can take care of themselves and their school work. The only thing that changed is that we have more family time. And I’m loving that.”

How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “Stick to a schedule and routine. Get dressed, even if you work from home. It’s all in your head. You need to think and see the positive on and around you to be happy. Turn off the TV and focus on what’s most important right now. And be sure to exercise as that helps being happy. It’s amazing how normal I feel regardless of what’s happening in the world. Stay and think positive to be positive. You can do it.”

How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “I crochet in a lot of different place at home. Either on the sofa, chair or bed. I make it cozy, comfy and a happy space. No clutter or I don’t feel relaxed.”

What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? “WeCrochet, Lion Brand and Furls. My favorites are AT THIS LINK.
