Happy Projects by Favorite Designers, Vol. 3
It is so wonderful when you come across happy, positive people who genuinely try to help those around them. I have grown as a person and designer because of the many outstanding people I have met through crochet, crafting and yes, social media.
I am on a quest to create some happy moments and would love to share with all of you some fabulous designers trying to do the same. This is the third in this series of Happy Projects to crochet.
For more free happy projects, check out the first two roundups: Volume 1 and Volume 2.
I asked the following designers to share a few thoughts and some of the happy crochet patterns. They also are offering us all some free crochet patterns, plus some are having a pattern sale.
Where are they from, who has the most WIPs (works in progress) and what are their favorite happy patterns? Please take a few minutes to get to know them better. I hope you will check out their sites and follow them for more happy moments.

What is your day to day life right now? “I am so thankful my day hasn’t changed all that much. I already homeschool my two children and work from home, so not much has changed there. My father also has come to live with us recently so I have some extra help at home while my husband is still working.”
How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “I get up every morning at the same time, get some work done before the kiddos wake up, and get a workout in at least 5 days a week. Some things I’ve been doing since all this started that I didn’t do before, is calling or texting at least one different friend or family member a day. That has definitely brought some added happy to my day.”
How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “An organized mess. Lots of yarn and notions and hooks around but each in it’s own place near the couch where I crochet.”
What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? “I love lightweight yarns! Dk, sport, and fingering weight yarns are my favorite to work with!”

What is your day to day life right now? “A typical day in the Grice house includes a morning full of crochet business work, designing and hanging with my Crochetpreneur Business Academy members. We’re taking things slower and being intentional about how we spent this time together. We’re playing more board games, cooking together, and going for daily walks and our days are brightened by caring for our 2 year old grandson so his folks can work at home undisturbed.”
How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “Connecting with friends, calling my mom for a daily chat, and taking time to notice the beauty every day are ways we stay positive. We’re keeping a journal of all the happy we see each day and look forward to revisiting it in years to come.”
How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “I have a lively little corner of the world where I crochet. My studio had bookshelves filled with yarn and a comfy recliner. I love to binge Netflix while making.”
What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? “I specialize in creating patterns for crochet sellers so I love super chunky yarn because it makes product-making go more quickly and allows for higher profits.”

What is your day to day life right now? “My typical day is spent balancing my crochet blog, and college work. I live with my family of 5. Though it’s weird being home so much, it’s awesome to spend time with them. I usually work on my online classes in the morning, do lots of crochet designing in the afternoon, and spend time with my family all in between. :)”
How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “I definitely recommend getting in a groove. Don’t wander through your days with no purpose. When all this started, that’s what I did. However, now I’ve started to think about what my purpose is for each day, and live determined to meet that goal.”
How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “I crochet in any cozy corner of my house, usually on the couch!”
What types of yarn make you happy to work with? “All natural fibers, especially alpaca!”

What is your day to day life right now? “The only change is my daughter is home from work now, which has been so nice. I feel like I never see her anymore, so I am loving that she is forced to be home with me! I still work my business, and I have a remote job, so aside from only grocery shopping once a week, its pretty much business as usual over here.”
How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “As long as I have yarn, hooks, coffee, puppies and my family, I am happy!”
How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “My “office” doubles as the living room couch :)”
What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? “I love velvet yarn and any yarn with happy colors”

What is your day to day life right now? “In addition to being a designer, I’m also a virtual assistant to several crochet designers in our industry. My day hasn’t changed much as I’m still able to provide my services to my clients. However, the biggest change (which really isn’t when you think about it) is having my boys home. I’m doing the same now with them as if they were home for the summer. I have 3 boys, 2 teens and 1 preteen. They are older and can self care but there are times where they need me and that’s okay.”
How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “Knowing that in the end, it will all be alright. Even if our previous normal is no longer the same, just knowing that I can adapt and change with our new normal helps. Definitely finding some humor in all that’s happening helps, too. The biggest thing is not panicking about things that are beyond my control. I can control what happens in my house but can’t control what happens out there, so knowing that tremendously helps me and my budding anxiety.”
How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “I would usually crochet on the couch in my living room while watching a tv show – I’m currently into Vampire Diaries and British tv shows. My interests are all over the place.”
What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? “Any yarn that works up beautifully. I don’t have a favorite to work with but if it catches my eye, then I’ll work with it.”

What is your day to day life right now? “Honestly, I feel like our mental health is what is most important right now, so we are making sure everyone has time to call, text or facetime with their friends (and this doesn’t count towards “electronic” time). We are playing games as a family daily and getting outside for fresh air each day whether it is walking the dog, playing tennis, running or golfing.”
How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “I think the habit that most helps me is getting up every day and getting ready, like getting dressed and doing my hair! My daughters and I try to laugh and joke everyday. We watch happy, uplifting movies!”
How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “I love to crochet in my living room, it is the hub of the house. I feel like I get to be with my family and the comings and goings of our busy life.”
What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? “I like any worsted weight yarn. I love that it can be used to make almost anything from hats, sharves, shawls, blankets, household items and amigurumi.”

What is your day to day life right now? “These days I’m sharing my office space with my husband. He is a reporter for the local station and I’m so grateful he can currently work from home. The best part is we can spend the evenings together and I totally cherish it. My two young boys are rocking the home learning and exterior activities. I love joining in as well and we have even been doing some yoga together!”
How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “Right now is the time to allow yourself some grace. Didn’t get that extra project done today? Oh well, it’s okay, just keep swimming along and letting go of the small stuff.”

What is your day to day life right now? “My husband is off work and I have an 8 month old baby. Not much has changed other than having my husband home which is wonderful to have his help all day taking care of our son. We try to stay busy and play in the yard as well as bake or cook together. We decided to do a few house projects to help us stay busy during the days and I still have down time to crochet. Our son is learning to stand and walk so we are encouraging these exciting milestones as well. There’s definitely a lot of Netflixing that’s going on in our house too!!”
How do you keep moving forward and finding the happy in life? “I think staying busy by doing things around the house helps pass the time. We make a game of chores, who can do the most in a certain amount of time. We also downloaded Zoom chat so we can video call our friends and family. We all plan to bring a snack and a drink and then we discuss what’s going on in the world or tell funny stories to keep us laughing. We are just grateful to be able to have the technology that allows us to do such a thing.”
How would you describe the area where you crochet/knit/craft? “It’s my favorite place in my home. My studio. I have my entire yarn stash, a large table, and good lighting to crochet all day.”
I have 2 cats (Jade and Fern), and I have an 8-month-old son. I have plants, but I’m not a good plant owner.
What types of yarn makes you happy to work with? “All yarn makes me happy to work with it! I am especially obsessed with chunky yarn right now. It makes quick projects and the fluffiness of thick yarn is so wonderful!!”
