Free Pattern: Shamrock Goose Sweater
For porch geese from 17″ to 28″. Watch for more trimmed sweater sets coming really soon.


Shamrock Sweater Crochet Pattern
The instructions for this sweater are available for free below. This sweater is created from some of my current snappy patterns. I am posting my notes below in case you would like to make one too.

Materials and Details
- Yarn: 150-200 yards worsted weight yarn per outfit.
Sample yarns: Red Heart Spring Green, Paddy Green, White - Crochet Hooks: G (4.25-4.5mm), I (5.5mm), J (6mm)
- Supplies: Yarn needle for weaving in ends, tiny spring (best from inside a pen) or thin wire to create your own
- Optional: Measuring tape, scissors
- Gauge: 4” with a G hook = 14 hdc sts and 10.5 rounds; 4” with an I hook = 13 hdc sts and 10 rounds; 4” with a J hook = 12 hdc sts and 10 rounds
Directions
This starts at the neck’s edge. The trim around the neck is added after the sweater is complete.
Use the following hook size according to the size goose you will be dressing: 17/19″ goose: G hook
23″ goose: I hook
28/29″ goose: J hook
1. With a hook and worsted weight yarn (Sample: Spring Green), ch 36, sl st in the last ch from hook to form a circle. Make sure the chain is not twisted. Ch 1, sc in the same ch and in each ch to end of round, sl st to join. (36sts)
2-4. Ch 1, hdc in each st to end of round, sl st to join.
5. Ch 1, *hdc 17, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat once, sl st in the first st to join. (38sts)
6. Ch 1, *hdc 18, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat once, sl st in the first st to join. (40sts)
7. Ch 1, *hdc 19, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat once, sl st in the first st to join. (42sts)
8. Ch 1, *hdc 20, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat once, sl st in the first st to join. (44sts)
9. Ch 1, *hdc 10, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (48sts)
10. Ch 1, *hdc 11, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (52sts)
11. Ch 1, *hdc 12, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (56sts)
12. Ch 1, *hdc 13, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (60sts)
13. Ch 1, *hdc 14, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (64sts)
14. Ch 1, *hdc 15, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (68sts)
15. Ch 1, *hdc 16, 2hdc in the next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (72sts)
Note: The sample has 5 rounds of white yarn where the applique is attached. If desired, switch to white for the next 5 rounds and then back to Spring Green.
16. Ch 1, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of round, sl st to join.
17. Repeat the previous round until the sweater measures the following from the beginning edge for the size you are making:
17/19″: 9″
23″: 12″
28/29″: 13″
18. Finish off the current yarn and change to a darker green yarn if desired. Ch 1, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of round, sl st to join.
19. This step starts the shamrock trim by creating a foundation round. Ch 1, TURN, sc in the same st, sc 2, *sl st in the next st, ch 5, sl st in the same st, sc 5*, repeat until 3 sts remain, sl st in the next st, ch 5, sl st in the same st, sc 2, sl st in the first st to join.
20. Ch 1, turn (to work from the right side), sk the first (same) st, sl st in each of the next 2, [*sl st in the next loop, (ch 2, dc, hdc, dc, ch 2, sl st) in the loop*, repeat 2 more times in the same loop, sl st 5], repeat from [ to ] until the last loop. *sl st in the next loop, (ch 2, dc, hdc, dc, ch 2, sl st) in the loop*, repeat 2 more times in the same loop, sl st 3. Finish off and weave in ends.

Top Edge Trim (optional)
This trim is started from the right side, adding a darker green round. For step 2 you will turn the piece to work from the wrong side. This is so when the top is folded down the right side of the shamrocks will be shown.
1. With the same size hook and a worsted weight yarn for the shamrock trim (Sample: medium green), start in any st on the neck edge of the sweater. Ch 1, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of round, sl st to join. (36sts)
2. This step starts the shamrock trim by creating a foundation round. Ch 1, TURN, sc in the same st, sc 2, *sl st in the next st, ch 5, sl st in the same st, sc 5*, repeat until 3 sts remain, sl st in the next st, ch 5, sl st in the same st, sc 2, sl st in the first st to join.
3. Ch 1, turn (to work from the right side), sk the first (same) st, sl st in each of the next 2, [*sl st in the next loop, (ch 2, dc, hdc, dc, ch 2, sl st) in the loop*, repeat 2 more times in the same loop, sl st 5], repeat from [ to ] until the last loop. *sl st in the next loop, (ch 2, dc, hdc, dc, ch 2, sl st) in the loop*, repeat 2 more times in the same loop, sl st 3. Finish off and weave in ends.
3 and 4 Leaf Clover Appliqué
Can be made with 3 or 4 leaves.
Use the following hook size according to the size goose you will be dressing: 17/19″ goose: G hook
23″ goose: H hook
28/29″ goose: H or I hook
4 Leaf Clovers (as shown on sample)
1. With an H hook and green ww yarn, start with a magic circle of 9 sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 9 sc sts), sl st to join. (9sts)
2. This step creates the stem. Ch 6, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc, sc 2, sl st in same st on beginning circle.
3. *ch 4, (tr, dc) in next st, (dc, tr, ch 4, sl st) in next st*, repeat to end of round, creating 4 petals, Finish off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing the clover to the chain.
3 Leaf Clovers
1. With an H hook and green ww yarn, start with a magic circle of 7 sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 7 sc sts), sl st to join. (7sts)
2. This step creates the stem. Ch 6, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc, sc 2, sl st in same st on beginning circle.
3. *ch 4, (tr, dc) in next st, (dc, tr, ch 4, sl st) in next st*, repeat to end of round, creating 3 petals, Finish off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing the shamrock to the chain.
