Free Pattern: Daisy Holder

Daisies are my favorite flower and actually something that grows well in my yard. I thought it would be fun to make something to hold a vase (or jar) for my daisies. This could be used for many things and actually ended up sitting on my nightstand to hold my earrings.

Daisy Holder Crochet Pattern

The pattern for this project is available to follow along below.

Materials and Details

  • Yarn: 150 yards ww yarn. Sample – 75 yards white, 75 yards red.
  • Crochet Hook: H (5mm)
  • Notions: Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Measurement: 9” across; center opening – 3.5”

Directions

1. With an H hook and red yarn (or desired color for flower center, start with a magic circle of 8 sc sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 8 sc sts), pull closed and sl st to join. (8sts)

2. Ch 1, 2sc in each st to end of round, sl st to join. (16sts)

3. Ch 1, *sc, 2sc in next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (24sts)

4. Ch 1, *sc 2, 2sc in next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (32sts)

5. Ch 1, *hdc 2, 2hdc in next st, repeat until 2 sts remain, hdc 2, sl st to join. (42sts)

6. Ch 1, *hdc 5, 2hdc in next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (49sts)

7. Ch 1, *BPHDC 6, 2 BPHDC around next post*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (56sts)

8. Change to white yarn (or desired color for petals). Ch 1, *sc 7, 2sc in next st*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (63sts)

9. This step starts the petals. There will be 9 petals when complete. 

    *Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc 6. 

    Ch 1, turn, hdc 7. 

    Ch 1, turn, hdc 7.

    Ch 1, turn, hdc in the same st, hdc in the next st, 2hdc in the next st, hdc in the next st, 2hdc in the
              next st, hdc in each of the next 2 sts. (9sts)

    Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, hdc, dc 3, hdc, sc2tog. (7sts)

    Do not turn. Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc 43 sts evenly down the side of the petal, sl st the last used st
    from the first row, sl st in the next st on the circle.* One petal complete.

    Repeat until 8 petals are complete. 

    Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc 6. 

    Ch 1, turn, hdc 7. 

    Ch 1, turn, hdc 7.

    Ch 1, turn, hdc in the same st, hdc in the next st, 2hdc in the next st, hdc in the next st, 2hdc in the
            next st, hdc in each of the next 2 sts. (9sts)

    Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, hdc, dc 3, hdc, sc2tog. (7sts)

    Do not turn. Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc 4 sts evenly down the side of the petal, sl st the last used st
    from the first row. 

10. This step is worked around the outer edge of the cloth. **Working up the side of the next petal, sl st 5 sts evenly, *ch 1, sl st in next st*, repeat across the top of the petal, sl st in each st down the side of the petal, sl st in the valley between the two petals.** Repeat for each petal. Sl st in first st to join. Finish off and weave in ends.

Flower Center Bin

1. Attach matching yarn (red in sample) to one of the sts of the ridge created by the BPHDC sts from step #7. Ch 1, sc in each st to end of round, sl st to join. (49sts)

2. Ch 1, sc in the same st, *sc2tog, sc 10*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (45sts)

3. Ch 1, *sc2tog, sc 13*, repeat to end of round, sl st to join. (42sts)

4-6. Ch 1, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of round, sl st to join. 

7. Sl st in each st to end of round. Finish off and weave in end. 

Center Trim

Attach contrasting yarn (blue in sample) around a post of the last round from the flower center. *ch 6, sk one post, sl st around the next post*, repeat to end of round. Finish off and weave in end.
