Free Pattern: Brookie’s Scrubby Set

My little square scrubbies have been really popular so I thought I would make a set of round ones. They are the perfect size for washing your face, little piggies, and dishes. These are names after my assistant, Brookie (a little Yorkie) because I use them to wash her face each night. If you have ever had a similar dog you know little crusties can collect right below their tear ducts (ew). Using these and some water each night help keep the gooeys away.

This is part of my “Weekly Wash” for 2025. Each Wednesday from March – November a new crochet pattern for a dishcloth, scrubbie, towel, or similar will be released. I hope you will enjoy these patterns too. The patterns are free to follow along on my blog, plus several of them have a paid pdf for a small fee.

Scrubby Directions

For a set, make 4-6 scrubbies

1. Start with a magic circle of 8 hdc sts (or preferred method for creating a circle of 8 hdc sts), pull closed and sl st to join. (8sts)

2. Ch 1, 2hdc in each st to end of round, sl st to join. (16sts) The “2hdc” will be referred to as a “cluster”.

3. From this point on, work the sts of each round between the posts of the previous round. This is done by inserting the hook slightly below the normal st placement. See graphic at right.

Ch 1, TURN, 2hdc before the first cluster, *ch 1, 2hdc between next 2 clusters*, repeat to end of round, ch 1, sl st in first st to join. (16 sts + 8 chs/8 clusters)

4. Ch 1, TURN, (2hdc, ch 1, 2hdc) in each ch 1 space from the previous round, sl st in first st to join. (32 sts + 8 chs)

5. Do not turn. *Ch 1, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the ch 1 space, ch 1, sc before the next cluster*, repeat to end of round, sl st in first st to join. Finish off and weave in ends. (24 sts + 24 chs) See bottom graphic at right.
