Finishing Up

Camper.

I have been trying to write this email for two days and I keep getting emotional so bear with me. 🥹

What started as a free virtual crochet camp for a few hundred people turned into something I genuinely did not see coming with a grand total of 11,249 that registered through my camp registration link… and that doesn’t include the many that participated because they were getting the newsletters.

You made things. You left little handmade surprises for strangers. You cheered each other on. You showed up every single day with your hooks and your hearts and your geese and you made Camp Snappy into something real.

And if you haven’t submitted your photos to the camper gallery yet — do it today!!

It has been the greatest honor of my crafting life to be your Camp Director.

I’ll see you tonight around the final campfire.

So much love,
— Heidi

And then… 👀

Stay on the email list — you’ll be the first to know and have first access to what’s coming next.

Day 5: Friday

🎽 Camp shirt pattern is available in the files. The first page has a note explaining the release of this big “camp clothes” pack.

🌀 Snappy spinner crochet pattern is in the files.

Spinner video: The video is in our Facebook group. Our Internet had some issues last night and we couldn’t do the final edits and spiffy stuff to load it to YouTube. It will be added there later today. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1H43oPHfcF/?

Day 4: Thursday

5 patterns have been added to the freebie files. 3 bags, a pack of human hats and stuffies, pack of goose shirts.

I have added three bag patterns to the freebie files plus one big pack that goes with a bag…includes the “tots” little snappy dots that would be great for our RAOK adventures.

Camp Shirts: This pack includes a basic shirt and sleeves…and shorts …and a skirt… hey, this is what happens when a house full of geese think they have a say.

Day 3: Wednesday

Wednesday’s Project: Just Call Him Goose

The pattern for this emotional little guy is in our freebie files.

Day 2: Tuesday

Tuesday’s Project: Every camp has a flag and lots of us in snappyland love flags so it seemed fitting that our camp project is a special kind of mini flag… a MINI GOOSE FLAG!

The full pattern is in our freebie files.

Watch for a pack of embellishments to add some flair to your flag and other camp items as well.

Day 1: Monday

Monday’s Project: In case you left your pillow home (I have done that!) or need a little extra support for your neck or back, our first camp project will come in handy. (pattern in the freebie files)
UPDATE: I added a flower pattern for those that might want an applique but not starts, plus I made a note to omit the overlapping row if not doing the blue section.

ROAK: an outdoor adventure

Here’s how it works:

Make a bunch of little items. Then take them with you wherever you go the rest of this week and beyond — to the coffee shop, the library, the park, the grocery store — and leave one behind for someone to find.

No note needed. No explanation. Just a tiny handmade surprise from a Camp Snappy camper who wanted to make someone’s day a little better.

If you can, snap a picture, then tag #CampSnappy so we can see where Camp Snappy has been!! 🗺️

I LOVE doing this when we go places and I hope you will too!

I added 7 extra patterns to the files for things I think will be good for this adventure. These are all tagged with ROAK in the freebie files). Feel free to make anything for this! They do not need to be from Snappy patterns. Here are some links to other items you might want to make:

Worry worms

Rock covers

Round up of RAOK patterns (random acts of kindness)

Do you have an item that you already like to leave in random places rather to find? Let us know in the comments

Camp Counselors

Counselors by Cabin Color: Pink | Blue | Green | Orange | Black | Purple

Gretchen and Squiggy | 🌸 Cabin Pink

I am an animal lover who loves to crochet. Animals and crochet are my therapy. I own 2 Skilled Hillbillies. We are known for our crochet and woodburning. Squiggy is my spokes dog for my business. We live in the mountains of North Carolina.

Please check out “2 Skilled Hillbillies” and say hi.

Squiggy has his own page too! Visit Squiggy.

Wally (Heidi’s 19″) | ⚡ Cabin Blue

He’s a little different, and he owns it. You won’t find Wally just anywhere — he’s a special kind of goose who loves to hang out at Walmart. He has his own very particular way of doing things. He showed up to camp with a detailed list of every Walmart location within a fifty mile radius, organized by department layout, and honestly nobody is even a little surprised. Friendly, specific, and absolutely certain his system is better than yours.

Daisy Mae and Linda | 🌿 Cabin Green

Coffee in one hand, crochet hook in the other — well, when she can find it. She’s the proud parent of two geese who are absolutely living their best lives, and she runs on caffeine, yarn, and the sheer determination to finish a project before losing her scissors again. If you can’t find her she’s probably retracing her steps looking for her hook. Check the freezer. 😄

Please follow Linda on insta Middleofastitch

Duke (23” — The Duke of Snappiness) | 🔥 Cabin Orange

Duke, Heidi’s main goose and the one who started all the gooseyness in Snappyland. He’s got style, he’s got swagger, and he never met a road trip he didn’t love. If there’s an RV involved, Duke has already claimed his spot by the window. He’s the life of every campfire, the first one with a s’more in hand, and somehow he always ends up being everyone’s favorite by the end of day one. Nobody’s surprised.

psst… in case you hadn’t heard, Duke requested his name spelling be changed because people kept mispronouncing his name. It used to be “Ducke” because I often called him a duck.. but it was pronounced Duke. So… he is now “The Duke of Snappiness” and we love him.

Trish Brunkhart | 🖤 Cabin Black

I was introduced to crochet and knitting by my grandmother at age 7, sparking a lifelong passion for crafting. I’ve been a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator for 25 years and have been married for 49 years, raising four children and now enjoying time with 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson. I’m a self-proclaimed sci-fi nerd, loving all things Star Wars and Dr. Who. My trusty camping companion, EGGZY, gifted by my crocheting daughter, brings joy to my adventures. We’re looking forward to adopting a goose after our camping trip.

Goosequin (The Quiet Guide) | 🪻 Cabin Purple

Cabin Purple Quietly creative and warmly accommodating, Goosequin serves as the steady anchor for the selectively social campers. While they arrived on day one in a fully accessorized, pre-completed camp outfit, they immediately utilized that preparation time to ensure every camper secured a peaceful, comfortable space to craft. Renowned locally for maintaining a flawless rotation of seasonal porch attire, Goosequin now directs that meticulous care toward their cabinmates. They lead not with volume, but with an inviting presence, offering silent encouragement, prompt yarn assistance, and a gloriously unbothered environment where every quiet creator can thrive.

🤠 CAMP BANDANA – show your cabin pride!

🏠 Your Cabin Assignment

Your cabin is determined by the color of your special snappy bandana (patterns in the freebie files). Make your bandana(s) in the color that matches the cabin that seems the best fit and that’s how you are officially assigned to your cabin! 🎨

Cabins by Color: Pink | Blue | Green | Orange | Black | Purple

🌸 Cabin Pink — Bright Pink (is there any other!)
Bold, bright, and unapologetically extra

First to bedazzle their crochet hook. Will want to hug everyone at the closing ceremony and is not even a little embarrassed about it. The goose has a full skincare routine, three outfit changes planned for the week, and is currently standing in front of the yarn stash deciding between the pink bandana and the PINKER bandana. She’s been standing there for forty minutes. We respect the commitment.

⚡ Cabin Blue — Electric Blue
Cool, creative, always first to the craft table

Shows up to camp with a color-coded yarn organizer and a laminated schedule, and already swatched three colorways before anyone else found their scissors. Has opinions about yarn weight. The goose showed up in a tiny blazer and a headband, introduced themselves to every other camper within the first ten minutes, and has already color-coded their bandana yarn by dye lot. Nobody asked. The goose did it anyway.

🌿 Cabin Green — Lime Green
Wild, adventurous, probably has yarn everywhere

Just found a skein in the garden. And the car. And somehow the freezer. Nobody is asking questions. The goose was last seen sprinting across the yard wearing a half-finished hat and absolutely no regrets.

🔥 Cabin Orange — Hot Orange
Energetic, fun, definitely eating all the s’mores

Shows up loudest, laughs hardest, finishes their project first AND brings snacks for everyone. The camp counselor we all secretly wanted. The goose has been in full camp gear since Tuesday, is currently on their third s’more, has introduced themselves to every goose within a three yard radius, and is already planning the afterparty. Camp hasn’t even started yet.

🖤 Cabin Black — Pitch Black
Cozy, caffeinated, and happily unavailable

Headphones in, door closed, absolutely thriving. Currently on their fourth cup of coffee and their second Netflix series simultaneously. Will emerge for snacks and yarn. Please do not knock. The goose is also under a blanket, wearing tiny sunglasses, with a do not disturb sign around its neck, an untouched s’more going cold on the side table, and frankly the most peaceful expression you have ever seen on a waterfowl.

🪻 Cabin Purple — Deep Purple
Quietly creative, gloriously unbothered

Crocheting in peaceful solitude while everyone else is being loud about it. Introverted? No. Just… selectively social. There’s a difference. The goose showed up wearing a completely finished, fully accessorized camp outfit on day one, said nothing, sat down, and started on their second project. Nobody knows when they made it. Nobody is brave enough to ask.

So, which cabin is calling your name? Choose one and pick out some yarn. What if you and your goose choose different cabins? As long as you both are well-behaved then separate cabins are fine.

Registration is OPEN! If you haven’t signed up yet click below to reserve your spot at Camp Snappy — you’ll get your official Welcome Packet within 24 hours.

Hello, I am residing in the Purple Cabin. I don’t have a Goose of my own but I crochet clothes for friends geese.

  9. Susan Lee says:

    Scavenger Hunt – what fun
So my cabin is black, my goose’s is purple – since both are my favorites. My favorite hook is a size 4 since that’s how I learned to crochet. I’ve only been crocheting for about a year and I was taught by getting a Woobles kit. The most random skein I have is a variegated black, brown, grey, white that I needed for a Star Wars character. I did find Bonbon on the website and he is free so that would definitely be less than $3 lol. I was just looking at my craft area where I store all my yarn and found my yoga mat, that definitely does not belong there and explains why I haven’t used it in a long while. I store my yarn in a corner of my office but I crochet on my couch surrounded by bags of yarn, hooks, etc…
My oldest skein is remnants from the Woobles kit when I first started out, I need to do something with all those remnants.
And finally the pattern I bought that I haven’t made yet is for a tank top and it’s because every time I start crocheting one project other ideas pop into my head….. someday I will get them all done, just as I will finish all the books I have to read (there’s only 1500+)
I have no clue how to post a photo but my goose is currently wearing her Pride dress for the month of June

    1. Amira Stillwater says:

My cabin is purple and my goose is in cabin green! The oldest skein of yarn I have is at least 20 years old. The weirdest yarn I ever had was a burnt orange, very old, 100% wool…very rough feeling. But… it made a wonderful 9 x 13 hot pad that I have been using to set my hot things from the oven on for at least 20 years. It is functional and I was so happy to have a use for that very ugly yarn (in my opinion).
Favorite crochet hook is a 5.0 H hook.
My goose is sadly naked at the moment.🙁 I don’t have a crochet spot atm. Life was turned upside down with hubby becoming very ill.
I so appreciate this camp you’ve organized. It’s been great to have a place to come this week to just read what others have to say and smile and get just a few moments of me time in a very chaotic moment. 💜

  10. Toni Monton says:

Hello campers! My goose, Mrs Goosey, and I are in the the pink cabin. We are pinkalicious!!!! Looking forward to this week!

  11. Hi! I am happy to be here. I am purple with a border of lime green for my headscarf. lol I will be in the purple cabin, and my (for now) imaginary goose will be in the lime green cabin.

  12. Kevin Gooseling and I are Cabin Green! And you can guarantee or bandanas are NOT matching but made with love and all kinds of green !!! Happy camping 🏕️

  13. Mary Heaton says:

    Wasn’t able to do a check-in for Day 1 because I didn’t receive information until 8PM (EST).
Also, the pillow pattern still hasn’t shown up – 11:10PM (EST)

  14. Wanda Bennett says:

I’m cabin black and my desk goose is cabin purple.🤦🏻

    1. I am in Cabin Black too. I don’t own a goose yet. But probably will after camp.

  15. Mary Heaton says:

My goose, Luci, has chosen Green cabin. (Yeah, we can be a little scattered – in the brain and in general. )
Looking forward to the camp activities.
    Thank you, Director Heidi.

  16. Sharon Rush says:

Here I am still trying to figure out which cabin I wanna be in, maybe black. Maybe purple.. I don’t know, have lots on my plate and work full time…but I will be around when I can be

  17. I want to be in cabin orange. Where do I find the bandana pattern?

  18. I goofed! I would like to be the Cabin Blue’s description. Only, I am more like the Cabin GREEN’s description! (Blue is my favorite color.

  19. I would like to be the Cabin Blue’s description. Only, I am more like the Cabin Purple’s description.

  20. Jeana Thomas-Nelson says:

So if I wanna cabin hop, that means I can use variegated yarn to confuse everyone 🤣🤣🤣

  21. Sharon Hernandez says:

I signed up for the camp and was wondering where the bandana patter is to determine cabin assignment Thank you

    1. All patterns are in the freebie files. You should have received an email with the link and password. If not I am sending another out tonight.

  22. Charlotte says:

Woohoo! I am all signed up and ready to go. I am a new crocheter, but the porch goose trend has made me jump in with both feet. I love your blog. Thank you so much for all you do. It is a light to my life!

I have the Walmart 19″ goose. Would you say that the 17″ inch patterns are best for it? I have been dabbling with the 23″ free patterns you have posted on your blog and just trying to amend them as I can. I’ve done the turtle neck sweater, and it’s quite large on her. I’m wondering if I should purchase 17″ versions of your patterns for my sanity’s sake as I learn stitching so I don’t have to worry about amending sizes, too.

I can’t wait for camp! Thelma (my goose) and I will be ready to go once I get her hats and bags made! (I am almost finished with the fanny pack, just having trouble with the last step and how to sew it all up)

    1. Yay thank you so much for your fun comment. Actually the 17 inch and 19 inch bodies are almost identical so my 17 inch patterns fit it perfectly. The difference in those 2 inches is the Walmart goose stands up taller. I think he’s just a little bit more confident than the 17 inch goose.🤭

  23. Valerie Haverkost says:

CAMP SNAPPY****What a fabulous and creative idea!!! After approximately 50+ years since attending to a camp, the excitement and anticipation of being in a “cabin” with like-minded crocheters is wildly exciting! Thank you, Heidi, for reminding us that there’s still whimsy in today’s world! YOU COLOR OUR WORLD WITH JOY!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

    1. Oh my goodness, touches my heart so much! You have no idea how much comments like this mean to me. I love finding my people. Thanks for being one of them.

      1. Debbie S. says:

Snappy camp… What a wonderfully awesome event!! Love it! Not able to post pics for camp projects production. I use Ravelry as my only social media venue. Am a participant. Cabin choice purple, goose fisherman costume for “Bill” who chose cabin orange. Red heart amethyst, beanie and bandana done. Working on ribby blanket. Maybe next year there could be a Ravelry group for the Snappy Camp #2!!!. Too fun, Heidi. Thank you!
        Debbie.
