Every summer I find myself designing something with bumblebees and ladybugs. I thought they would make kitchen sets. This bumblebee hanging towel button around a towel bar, oven handle, fridge handle and can even hang on a hook.

14. Finish off the black yarn. Change to yellow yarn. Ch 1, turn, hdc in the same st, *dc in next st, sc in next st*, repeat until 1 st remains, hdc in last st. Finish off and weave in yarn.
15. Lay towel on a flat surface, right side down. Check your beginning edge for the “right side”. Fold in the sides, overlapping 11sts at the right edge. See photo below.
16. With an I hook, attach yarn for top of towel (yellow) in the first sts at the right. For this step we will work through the stitches on both layers of the towel.
Ch 1, sc in each st until 1 st remains before the center opening.
Insert the hook in the first st of the second half, in the last st of the current half and in the next st on the back layer. See photo below. Finish off row with an sc in each st to end of row. (21sts)
17. Ch 1, turn, 2sc in same st, sc in each st to end of row. (22sts).
18. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

29. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc, sk 1, sc 4 around chain, sk 1, sc, sc2tog. (8sts) Finish off and weave in ends.
Top Flower
1. With an H hook and yarn color of choice, ch 8, sl st in last ch from hook to form a circle.
2. *ch 6, sl st around chain*, repeat until 9 loops have been made. Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing to cloth.
With a yarn needle and yarn tail, sew the center ring to the cloth so it encircles the button hole. Leave space around the buttonhole so the button will slip through the towel layer and be surrounded by the flower. If the flower is too close to the buttonhole the button may not stay on top of both layers unless it is a shank button.
Flower on Cloth (optional)
1. Leave a long tail in the beginning for sewing flower center to the cloth when complete. With an H hook and orange yarn, create a magic circle of 5sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 5 sc sts), pull closed and sl st to join. (5sts)
2. Ch 1, 2sc in each st to end of round, sl st to join. (10sts)
3. Finish off yarn and change to color for petals (red in sample). *Ch 9, sl st in same st, sl st in next st*, repeat to end of round, finishing with the last sl st in the same st as the beginning chain. Finish off and weave in end.
With a yarn needle, use the beginning yarn tail to sew the flower center to the cloth. Allow the center to bulge when sewing it to the cloth.
Face
Eyes (make 2)
With an H hook and white yarn, create a magic circle of 5sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 5 sc sts), pull closed and sl st to join. (5sts) Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing in place.
With a yarn needle and yarn tail, sew eyes to the top part of the yellow section. With a sewing needle and black thread, sew one button on top of each eye for the pupils.
Nose (make 1)
With an H hook and red or orange yarn, start with a magic circle of 6sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 6 sc sts), pull closed and place a marker for working in the round. (6sts)
With a yarn needle and yarn tail, sew nose in place, overlapping the bottom edge of the eyes.
Mouth: With a yarn needle and black yarn, stitch mouth in place.
Hanger
1. With an H hook and yellow yarn, ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 4. (5sts)
2. Ch 1, turn, sc 5.
3. Repeat previous row until hanger is approximately 6” or desired length. Finish off, leaving a yarn tail at one end for sewing to cloth.
With a yarn needle and yarn tail, sew one short end to the back of the cloth, approximately 1” from the buttonhole opening. Make sure not to sew through the flower petals.
With a sewing needle and thread, sew the button to the opposite end of the hanger tab.
Antenna (make 1)
With an H hook and black yarn, ch 13, 4hdc in the 2nd ch from hook (this creates the “ball” at the tip of the antenna), sl st in each ch across until 1 ch remains, (4hdc, sl st) in the last ch. Finish off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing to the cloth.
I suggest sewing the antenna piece to the hanger while the button is through the buttonhole. This helps find the correct placement.
Fold the antenna piece in half to find the middle. Pin the middle point to the hanger where it meets the top of the cloth. With a yarn needle, use the yarn tail from the antenna to sew the straight part to the hanger. See the main photo for placement if needed.
