Free Scarf Patterns for Everyone on Your List — Including the Goose!
There is something extra fun about making a scarf in someone’s favorite team colors. It is an easy way to personalize a handmade gift without needing a complicated pattern — and, of course, around here we can’t leave the geese out!
For this Make Ahead Monday, we’re making scarves for everyone on your gift list. Make one for a friend, your favorite sports fan, someone heading off to college, the whole family… or make a matching one for the porch goose.
Because apparently even the goose needs game-day gear.
Scarves are also a great project to work on while watching your favorite sport or show or while riding on a road trip. Pick your colors, settle in and stitch away.

Scarves for the Humans
Before we get to the goose-sized scarf, here are several free Snappy Tots scarf patterns that would make great gifts. Pick a style, choose colors that mean something to the person you’re making it for and start stitching.

Sometimes the Colors Mean a Little More
One year I made scarves and beanies for my family in support of our oldest son when he went into the Army. We made Harry Potter-style scarves, and it was such a fun way for our family to show our support.
That’s one of the things I love about a simple scarf. The colors can represent a favorite sports team, school, college, military branch or just something meaningful to the person you’re making it for.
And yes, matching your porch goose absolutely counts.

Use your favorite team’s colors to turn a simple scarf into a personalized gift. Here are yarn colors I like for a couple of my favorites.
Denver Broncos
Red Heart Super Saver in Soft Navy and White Bernat Super Value in Carrot
Philadelphia Eagles
Red Heart Super Saver in Black, White, Jade and Grey Heather
General Football / Tailgating
Browns and creams work well for football bodies, paired with contrasting worsted weight or cotton yarns like Red Heart Super Saver or Peaches & Creme for team stripes.

Materials & Details
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver and/or Bernat Super Value in choice of colors.
Sample Broncos Colors: Red Heart Super Saver Soft Navy, White; Bernat Super Value Carrot.
23″/28″ Goose: I hook (5.5mm)
17″/19″ Goose: G hook
23″ Goose Scarf: 3.5″ across x desired length (48″ in sample)

💡 Pattern Tips
The sample scarf is extra long so it can be worn how I like to wear my scarves. Fold in half, place the center loop at one side of the neck, and pull the scarf ends through the loop.
Change colors as desired. One sample is made from one yarn, Red Heart Ombré.
The striped scarf has 4 rows navy. 6 rows orange. Always change colors on the same side of the scarf.
This can be made plain or more textured. Choose one of the options on step 2.
The Penguin That Started It
This scarf was originally part of my Penguin Goose Pack, but I hadn’t released the scarf separately before. The plain version is shown on the penguin.

Fan Goose Scarf
1. With hook and worsted weight yarn, ch 13, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (12sts)
2. Choose one of the following:
Plain scarf (shown on penguin): Ch 1, turn, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of row.
Textured scarf (sample shown below): Ch 1, turn, sc in the same st, hdc in the next st, *sc, hdc*, repeat to end of row.
3. Repeat the previous row for an additional 124 rows (or desired length).
4. Ch 1, turn, sc in the same st and in each st to end of row. Finish off and weave in ends.
Tassels (Optional)
Cut several pieces of yarn 8″ long. Find the center loop of 1 strand and use a crochet hook to pull the center loop through one end of the scarf until the loop is snug against the scarf. Repeat across both ends.
