Free Pattern: Scrubby Water Splash Balls
We love water toys, especially splash balls, at our house. A few years ago I made a little angry birds to slip over some for a birthday gift. I also made some little minions too (my daughter loves those silly little guys).
A few days ago I stopped by the dollar store for some little Easter basket goodies. I grabbed some splash balls…we can never have enough… and on the way home had a light bulb moment…SCRUBBY COVERS! Wouldn’t they be awesome bath tub toys AND little scrubbers kids would have fun getting soapy?
Today I whipped up a few to send to my grandson, Leland. I think he is going to LOVE these!

They were SUPER FAST to make (less than 15 minutes each) and took an itty bitty amount of yarn. I’m thinking I will keep my scrubby yarn handy and keep making a bunch of these to keep on hand for birthday gifts. I think adults would love them in the shower too. The splash balls will help hold the water for a sudsy scrub.
I hope you will love making and giving these…or keeping them to use yourself.

Project Info
- Project Description: Small crocheted cover for water balls.
- Skill Level: Basic crochet skills are needed and must be able to read a crochet pattern.
- Completion Time (how long it takes the designer to make one): 10 minutes each
Of course this time will vary, but hopefully gives an idea. I always like to know approximately how long to plan for a project.
Materials and Details
- Yarn: Red Heart Scrubby Yarn
- Crochet Hook: I
- Miscellaneous: yarn needle for weaving in ends, 2″ or 3″ water ball
Instructions
Cover for small, 2″ water ball
- With an I hook and scrubby yarn, ch 2, work 5 sc in the 2nd ch from hook. Place marker for working in continuous round. (5sts) Note: I usually start with a magic circle, but find it can be a little tricky to slide the scrubby yarn. The yarn should fill the chain stitch so a hole will not be seen.
- 2sc in each st to end of round. (10sts)
- *hdc, 2hdc in next st*, repeat to end of round. (15sts)
