Mulberry Spice Beanie
THIS PATTERN WILL BE AVAILABLE MONDAY. 10/12/26
One of my favorite crochet events of the year is back! The annual Crochet Cancer Challenge, hosted by Sweet Potato 3, brings crochet designers and makers together for something truly special: creating handmade hats to bring comfort, encouragement, and love to people affected by cancer.
I’m excited to participate again this year with my Mulberry Spice Beanie!
Each year, this challenge reminds me that our crochet skills can make a difference. Whether we’re making a hat for someone we love or someone we’ve never met, every stitch is a little reminder that someone cares.
💜 Meet the Mulberry Spice Beanie
The Mulberry Spice Beanie is packed with texture and topped with a big, squishy pompom for a cozy hat that’s fun to make and wear.
This year’s rich purple represents pancreatic cancer awareness and reminds us that sometimes something as simple as a handmade hat can help spread love, hope, and support.
I love how the different shades blend together in this design. The chunky texture makes it a fun project for cooler weather, too!

🧶 A Little About the Pattern
This beanie uses bulky weight yarn and combines textured stitches with a cozy brim and oversized pompom.
My sample was made with Premier Bloom Chunky Big yarn in Mulberry. The beautiful color changes create a blend of rich purple and warm shades that make every hat a little different.
The downloadable PDF includes the materials list and complete crochet instructions.
🎗️ What Is the Crochet Cancer Challenge?
The Crochet Cancer Challenge is an annual event hosted by Sweet Potato 3. It brings crocheters together to make and donate handmade hats for people affected by cancer.
Participating designers share free crochet hat patterns throughout October. Each design is another opportunity to make something meaningful and brighten someone’s day.
How the Challenge Works
- Visit the official Crochet Cancer Challenge page throughout October.
- Look for the featured free crochet hat pattern. New patterns are released each weekday.

Spread the Word & Grow the Impact
You don’t have to make dozens of hats to make a difference! Even one handmade beanie can bring comfort and encouragement.
Another wonderful way to help is by sharing the Crochet Cancer Challenge with your friends, crochet groups, and online communities. The more people who participate, the more handmade hats can find their way to someone who needs one.
💜 Make One, Give One, Spread Some Love
The heart of this event is giving. Your finished beanie could be donated to a local cancer center, hospital, charity, or someone in your community who could use a little extra comfort.
Before donating, check with the receiving organization about preferred materials, sizes, and donation guidelines.
Whether you make one hat or a whole stack, your time and kindness can mean so much.
