Main Cake
This is worked back and forth in rows, from side to side.
1. With an H hook and brown yarn, ch 16, 2sc in the 2nd ch from hook, sc 13, 2sc in the last ch. (17sts)
2-3. Ch 2, turn, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of row.
4. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in the same st, hdc in each st until 1 st remains, 2hdc in the last st. (19sts)
5-7. Ch 2, turn, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of row.
8. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in the same st, hdc in each st until 1 st remains, 2hdc in the last st. (21sts)
9-10. Ch 2, turn, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of row.
11. Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each st until 2 sts remain, hdc2tog. (19sts)
12-14. Ch 2, turn, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of row.
15. Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each st until 2 sts remain, hdc2tog. (17sts)
16-17. Ch 2, turn, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of row.
18. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (15sts)
19. This step is worked around the outer edge of the piece. Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc 21 sts evenly spaced across the long edge, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the first st of the beginning row, hdc in each st across until 1 st remains, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the last st, sc 22 sts evenly spaced across the long edge, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the first st of the last row, hdc in each st across, sl st in beginning st to join. Finish off and weave in ends. Set piece aside.
Frosting (top)
1. Leave a long tail in the beginning for attaching to the cake. With an H hook and cream yarn, ch 34, starting in the 2nd ch from hook, *sc2tog, sc 9*, repeat to end of chain. (31sts)
2. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 13, sc2tog, sc 12, sc2tog. (28sts)
3. Ch 1, turn, 2hdc in the same st, sc, *sc2tog, sc 6*, repeat two more times, sc, 2hdc in the last st. (27sts)
4. Ch 3, turn, (2tr, dc) in the same st, sk 1, sc 5, *hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc 2*, repeat two more times, sc 2, hdc, sk 1, (2dc, ch 2, sl st in last st). Finish off and weave in ends.
With a yarn needle and a long piece of variegated yarn, create the sprinkles randomly across the frosting piece by making little sts.
Cherries (make 3)
1. With an H hook and red yarn, start with a magic circle of 5 sc sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 5 sc sts), pull closed and sl st to join. (5sts)
2. Ch 1, 2sc in each st to end of round, sl st to join. (10sts) Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing in place.
Stems for the pair of cherries: With an H hook and green yarn, sl st in a st on one cherry, ch 30, sl st in a st on the second cherry. Finish off and weave in ends. Tie the middle into a bow.
With a yarn needle and the yarn tail from each cherry, sew the cherries to the main cake. Use a piece of matching yarn to sew the middle of the bow in place.
Stem for the single cherry: With an H hook and green yarn, sl st in a st on one cherry, ch 8. Finish off and weave in end. Tie a knot in the end.
With a yarn needle and the yarn tail from the cherry, sew the cherry to the middle of the frosting piece, near the top edge.
Cloth Assembly
Place the top edge of the frosting next to the top edge of the main cake piece. Pin the centers together. The frosting should arc down on either side. It is ok if the edges overlap some.
Use a yarn needle and the beginning yarn tail to sew the top edges together. I did sew down the sides of the frosting to hold them in place, but this is optional.
Frosting (bottom)
Turn the cloth over so you are working from the wrong side. With an H hook and variegated yarn, sl st in the first st on the bottom edge at the right. [Ch 1, *YO, pull up a loop in the same st, pull through 2 loops on hook*, repeat 4 more times. YO and pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1, sl st in the next 2 sts], repeat across the bottom edge working just one sl st after the last puff.
Finish off and weave in ends.
