Looking for crochet and knit designers you can trust? There’s now a place to start.

Over the past year, one question has become harder than it ever should be:

Is this crochet pattern actually real?

AI-generated crochet and knit images have gotten incredibly convincing. Sometimes those of us who have been crocheting for years can spot the clues pretty quickly. Other times? Even we have to look twice.

But recently, I got to see this problem through completely different eyes — those of a brand-new crocheter.

My daughter started crocheting.

She didn’t already have years of favorite designers bookmarked. She didn’t know which names had been around for years, which websites were trustworthy, or all of the little things experienced crocheters have learned to notice in a questionable photo.

And she was getting tricked.

She would show me things she found and ask if they were real. Eventually, she asked me a very simple question:

Could I make her a list of crochet designers she could follow and trust?

Well… apparently I don’t know how to make a little list. 😂

A Little List Turned Into Something Much Bigger

I belong to a Facebook group with fellow crochet and knit designers, so I made a post asking who would like to be included.

My original plan was to gather the names into a blog post that I could send to my daughter and share with anyone else who might find it helpful.

But over the next few months, that little idea kept growing.

And growing.

A list became a resource.

A resource became something searchable.

And now…

The Crochet & Knit Designer Directory is officially LIVE!

The directory is a place to discover real people designing crochet and knit patterns — whether you’re brand new to yarn crafts or you’ve been stitching for decades and just want to discover someone new.

You can search and browse the directory, meet designers, and find links to the places where they share and sell their work.

This Is Just the Beginning

There is one thing I really want to make clear:

This is NOT a complete list of trustworthy crochet and knit designers. Not even close.

There are hundreds and hundreds of talented designers out there.

In fact, I am sure you already know and love designers who aren’t included in the directory right now.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t trustworthy.

It just means they aren’t here…

yet.

This is the beginning of a resource I hope will continue to grow.

My goal isn’t to create an exclusive list of who is or isn’t a “real” designer. It’s to make it a little easier for crocheters and knitters to find the real humans behind the patterns — and maybe discover some wonderful designers they haven’t met before.

Because choosing your next project should be about deciding what you can’t wait to make.

Not wondering whether the thing in the picture can actually be made at all.
