Ribby Headband

Every winter I wish I had more squishy soft and warm ear warmers that actually covered my ears. Last winter, we got so much snow that I went through almost every hat because we were snow blowing so much. This year I will be prepared with this new, ribby thick headband. It is a great size for teens and adults, plus there is a children’s size too.

  • Notions: yarn needle for sewing in ends.

Details

  • Gauge: 2” with an I hook = 7 post sts, 6 rounds in pattern
  • The first stitch of each row is worked into the same st as the turning chain.
  • Stitch counts remain the same unless noted at end of row.
  • Sizes (width measured flat): Child (9”), Child Large/Preteen (9.25”), Teen (9.75”), Adult (10.5”)

Tips for all sizes

  • This project is worked in the round.
  • The pattern notes color change placement. See color sequence on page 2 for the sample color changes.
  • Main sample is size Adult Large. Other sizes will have fewer stripes.

Note about the first round: I prefer beginning with a sc foundation chain. There are many help videos for sc foundation chains, plus I have included pictures at the end of this pattern.

Optional start: You may start with a regular chain instead if preferred. This creates a slightly different edge (you really will like the other way if you give it a try). Start with same amount of chains as listed above, then sl st in last ch from hook to join in a loop. Ch 1, sc in each st, then sl st to join.
