Free Pattern: Bonbon is a CHICK!

Every year I like to add something to my holiday decorations. I didn’t have a luminary cover for Easter and thought it would be cute hanging outside…even though we often have snow in March and early April. I knew Bonbon would be a cute chick! Made from my free “Bonbon the Owl” pattern, this chick is just the right size for Easter treats and decorating.

The yellow is a bright, colorful pop of color in my yard. I think this would be a fun teacher gift, craft fair item, or to sit in an office too. It is pretty quick to whip up and doesn’t take much yarn. You could use yarn scraps and even a variety of yellows would be fun.

The Original Version

Meet “BonBon”. She has been a popular project and I think it is because she is quick and easy, plus colorful. Whether or not owls are still “in” I will always think they are cute.

BonBon is a Chick Crochet Pattern

For this project, I used my Bonbon the Owl crochet pattern with the following changes:

Materials

  • Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in yellow and orange.
  • Crochet Hook: H (5mm) – The original version was made with dk weight yarn and a G hook. I wanted to see what she would look like made from worsted weight yarn so I used an H hook and really like her a little larger.
  • Miscellaneous: yarn needle; 2 small black buttons for eyes
  • Quart size mason Jar to slip inside owl (optional)
  • Metal coat hanger (optional)

Ways to Use This Project

  • She is great for holding a jar as a luminary.
  • Fill with treats or small Easter gift.
  • Fun for teacher gifts.
  • Make in a variety of colors to add a splash of cheer to your desk or walkway.
