Free Pattern: Granny Dish Cloth

Earlier this summer I made a hanging towel and people have loved it. YAY. I thought a matching cloth would make a nice set. I couldn’t decide which size to make so I wrote a pattern for both a wash cloth and dish cloth.

Materials
Yarn: Worsted weight cotton yarn

Crochet Hook: H

Miscellaneous: yarn needle

Gauge: not important for this project

Directions – Large Cloth (9″ square)

  1. With H hook and cotton yarn, loosely ch 31, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (30sts)
  2. Ch 2, turn, dc in each st to end of row.
  3. Ch 2, turn, dc in same st, 2dc in next st, sk 2, 2dc in next st, repeat until 1 st remains, 2dc in last
    st. (8 clusters with 4 dc)
  4. Ch 2, turn, dc in same st, 4dc in each space (between clusters from previous row), 2dc in last st.
  5. Ch 2,turn, dc in same st, 2dc in first space (between clusters from previous row), 4 dc in each space
    until one space remains, 2dc in last space, 2dc in last st. (8 full clusters)

Repeat steps 4 and 5 until piece is 1″ shorter than desired length (sample has 15 cluster rows).

Ch 2, turn, dc in same st, dc in space, dc 3, repeat until one space (between clusters) remains, dc in space, dc in last st.

Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row. Finish off and weave in ends.

Directions – Small Cloth (6.5″ square)

  1. With H hook and cotton yarn, loosely ch 23, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (22sts)
  2. Ch 2, turn, dc in each st to end of row.
  3. Ch 2, turn, dc in same st, 2dc in next st, sk 2, 2dc in next st, repeat until 1 st remains, 2dc in last
    st. (6 clusters with 4 dc)
  4. Ch 2, turn, dc in same st, 4dc in each space (between clusters from previous row), 2dc in last st.
  5. Ch 2,turn, dc in same st, 2dc in first space (between clusters from previous row), 4 dc in each space
    until one space remains, 2dc in last space, 2dc in last st. (6 full clusters)

Repeat steps 4 and 5 until piece is desired length (sample has 16 cluster rows).

Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, sc in space, sc 3, repeat until one space (between clusters) remains, sc in space, sc in last st. Finish off and weave in ends.
