October is cancer awareness month and Sweet Potato 3 is once again hosting the annual Cancer Awareness Challenge.
I am honored to be involved in this event again. Again this year each designer is honoring those affected by a specific cancer in hopes of bringing more awareness to those. Each hat can be made in any color and can be given to anyone affected by cancer, not just the one featured with that pattern.
Many of our crochet friends have been affected by cancer. Unfortunately WAY too many! I want to give them all a hug and try to let them all know I am thinking of them.
This year I decided to honor all those affected by cancer. A lavender ribbon represents all cancers. Plus, since I think a variety of color brings happiness, I incorporated bold colors in my samples.
I first designed a convertible beanie to be worn in a few different ways. It can be worn as a cowl with the drawstring untied, as a messy bun beanie with the top left a little open for hair to be pulled through, or as a beanie with the drawstring pulled closed. I have used beads to hold the drawstring closed, but the ends could be tied instead.
Since some might prefer a regular beanie I have designed one to match.
BOTH of these patterns are included in this year’s cancer challenge. The pattern links are below.
