Free Pattern: Spring Cloths

These cloths were designed as part of my Spring Kitchen Set, which includes hanging hand towels and a place mat.

Make as a cloth or double for trivets or even stuff for small pillows and decorations. Make several for a horizontal banner or vertically on a door.

Materials – per style

  • Yarn: 200 yards Worsted Weight Yarn (cotton for cloths or acrylic)
  • Crochet Hooks: H
  • Miscellaneous: Yarn needle for weaving in ends, two small black buttons, sewing needle, black thread
  • Optional: Stuffing for pillows, twine for creating a banner.

  • Finished Measurements: Chick – 9.5” long x 8” wide; Bunny – 11” long x 8” wide

Tips

  • First stitch of each row is worked into the same  stitch as the turning chain.
  • Numbers at the beginning of each line may refer to  steps and not indicate number of rows.

DIRECTIONS

Bunny

1. With an H hook and green yarn, ch 22, 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 20, 2sc in last ch. (23sts)

2. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in same st, *sc in next st, tr in next st*, repeat until 2 sts remain, sc in next st, 2hdc in last st. (25sts)

3. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in same st, *sc in next st, tr in next st*, repeat until 2 sts remain, sc in next st, 2hdc in last st. (27sts)

4. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in same st, *tr in next st, sc in next st*, repeat until 2 sts remain, tr in next st, 2hdc in last st. (29sts)

5. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, *tr in next st, sc in next st*, repeat until 2 sts remain, tr in next st, hdc in last st.

6. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

7. Change yarn color (purple in sample). Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, *sk 1, (sc, dc) in next st*, repeat to end of row.

8-16. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, *sk 1, (sc, dc) in next st*, repeat to end of row.

17. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (27sts)

18. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

19. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (25sts)

20. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

21. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (23sts)

22. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (21sts)

23. Repeat previous row until 11 sts remain.

24. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 9. (10sts)

25. This step starts the first ear. Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, sc 4. (5 sts)

26. Ch 1, turn, sc 5.

27. Ch 1, turn, 2sc in same st, sc 4. (6sts)

28. Ch 1, turn, sc 6.

29. Ch 1, turn, 2sc in same st, sc 5. (7sts)

30. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

31. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 5. (6sts)

32. Ch 1, turn, sc 4, sc2tog. (5sts)

33. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc 3. (4sts)

34. Ch 1, turn, sc 2, sc2tog. (3sts)

35. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc. (2sts)

36. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog. Finish off and weave in end.

37. This step starts the second ear. Attach yarn to first st at right edge of last row on head. Ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4. (5sts)

38. Repeat steps 26-36.

Nose: With a yarn needle and pink yarn, stitch nose in place.

Eyes: With a sewing needle and thread, sew buttons above nose.

Chick

1. With an H hook and orange yarn, ch 22, 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 20, 2sc in last ch. (23sts)

2. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in same st, *sc in next st, tr in next st*, repeat until 2 sts remain, sc in next st, 2hdc in last st. (25sts)

3. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in same st, *sc in next st, tr in next st*, repeat until 2 sts remain, sc in next st, 2hdc in last st. (27sts)

4. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in same st, *tr in next st, sc in next st*, repeat until 2 sts remain, tr in next st, 2hdc in last st. (29sts)

5. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, *tr in next st, sc in next st*, repeat until 2 sts remain, tr in next st, hdc in last st.

6. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

7. Change yarn color (yellow in sample). Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, *sk 1, (sc, dc) in next st*, repeat to end of row.

8-16. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, *sk 1, (sc, dc) in next st*, repeat to end of row.

17. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (27sts)

18. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

19. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (25sts)

20. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

21. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (23sts)

22. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. (21sts)

23. Repeat previous row until 13 sts remain.

24. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, hdc 9, sc2tog. (11sts)

25. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, hdc 7, sc2tog. (9sts)

26. Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc, (sl st, ch 5, sl st) in next st, (sl st, ch 7, sl st) in next st, (sl st, ch 5, sl st) in next st, sc,      sc2tog. Finish off and weave in ends.

Beak: With a yarn needle and orange yarn, stitch nose in place.

Eyes: With a sewing needle and thread, sew buttons above nose.
