Free Pattern: Better Together Scarf CAL

Have you heard the exciting news? You might have seen some teaser posts online with the tag #bettertogether. Red Heart Yarns is now part of Yarnspirations! This means all of our favorite yarns and patterns will be in one place. Most of my desigms are made with Red Heart yarns, but I love Bernat Blanket and Bernat chunky so this merge is perfect.

Yarnspirations is giving one lucky snappy peep a box of yarn! Come enter the giveaway by 8/31/19: CLICK HERE for the giveaway.

I Got An Idea

This morning, as I planned my day over a hot mug of “Monster Juice” (monster energy drink heated in the microwave is a GREAT kick start), I tried to get a few skeins of Red Heart Roll With It yarn to talk to me.

I also was thinking about how I would let you all know about the yarn companies. It hit me! I would find a Bernat yarn to go with these and make something… better together, right?

Let’s Make a Scarf Together

To celebrate our favorite companies coming together, I thought it would be fun to make a scarf with yarns from Red Heart and Yarnspirations.

I am using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn: 1 strand Red Heart Roll With it and 1 strand Bernat Pop. You could use almost any yarns.

What yarns will you use?

Materials

Yarn: Sample is made from 1 skein (280 yards) Red Heart Roll With It “Vintage” and 1 skein (280) yards Bernat Pop “Paisley Pop”.

Crochet Hook: P hook (11.5mm). I chose a hook a few sizes bigger than I usually would have because I wanted my scarf to be lighter weight than if I had used a smaller hook.

Substitutions: Choose 2 yarns that go together. It will be fun to see the variations! Choose one skein of yarn from Red Heart Yarns and one skein of yarn from these: BERNAT, CARON, LILY SUGAR’N CREAM, PATONS.

Choose a hook a few sizes bigger than you normally would for the yarn weights you have chosen. Need help with your substitution? Please send me an email or post in our facebook group.

Measurements

7″ wide by 70″ long (or desired length). Width is easy to adjust. Start with an even number of chains.

Directions

1.With a 11.5mm hook and 2 strands ww yarn held together, ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end of row. (15sts)

Note: the beginning “ch 2” is not counted in the st count, but the post does complete a pair.

2. Ch 2, turn, dc in same st, *sk 1, 2dc in next st*, repeat to end of row. (15sts) See photo at end of pattern for stitch placement if needed.

3. From this point on, each st is worked in the spaces between posts from previous row. Ch 2, turn, dc in first space (before post), sk 1 space, 2dc between next 2 posts*, repeat to end of row.

4. Repeat step 3 until scarf is desired length, changing colors as desired.

Finish off and weave in ends.
