Crochet Pattern: Hooked On Ghosts

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year so about now I am getting super excited for all things fall, especially Halloween! I try to make several new things each year to add to my decorations, plus create things that would be quick and easy for others to whip up too.

This “Hooked on Ghosts” piece is designed to be a Halloween decoration that hangs from a hook. It also could be made from cotton and used as a dishcloth.

It would be a fun lovey for little ones too. Please use safety eyes instead of buttons if this will be used with small children.

This pattern is part of a fun 12 pattern free event! When I heard about this awesome crochet along I KNEW I wanted to participate.

Ghost

This starts at the top/tip of the head.

1. With an H hook and white yarn, start with a magic circle of 5 sc sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 5 sc sts), pull closed and place a marker for working in the round. (5sts)

2. Sc in each st to end of round.

3. Repeat the previous round for an additional 8 rounds.

4. 2sc in the next st, sc 4. (6sts)

5-6. Sc in each st to end of round.

7. 2sc in the next st, sc 5. (7sts)

8.-9. Sc in each st to end of round.

10. 2sc in the next st, sc 6. (8sts)

11-13. Sc in each st to end of round.

14. 2sc in the next st, sc 7. (9sts)

15-17. Sc in each st to end of round.

18. Insert hook in the tip of the hat (beginning point). See photo below. Insert hook in next st on ghost, pull up a loop, YO and pull through all loops on hook. Repeat for a second sc, working into the tip of the hat again. Sc 2, *2sc in the next st, sc 2*, repeat once. (12sts)

19. *2hdc in the next st, hdc*, repeat to end of round. (18sts)

20. *2hdc in the next st, hdc 2*, repeat to end of round. (24sts)

21. *2hdc in the next st, hdc 3*, repeat to end of round. (30sts)

22. *2hdc in the next st, hdc 4*, repeat to end of round. (36sts)

23-24. Hdc in each st to end of round.

29. 2dc in each st to end of round. (48sts)

30. 2dc between the posts of each 2dc from previous round.

Tip: Think of the 2dc in one stitch in the shape of a “V”. Each 2dc in this round is worked between
the 2dc posts, in the the valley of the “V”. Do not work between every post, just each pair of dc.

31. (tr, ch 2, tr) between the posts of each 2dc from previous round.

32-33. (tr, ch 2, tr) in each ch space from previous round.

34-36. (tr, ch 3, tr) in each ch space from previous round.

37. (tr, ch 4, tr) in each ch space from previous round.

38. (dc, ch 4, hdc) in the first ch space from the previous round, (hdc, ch 4, sc) in the next ch space. The following creates peaks centered over each ch 4 space. *sc in the space BEFORE the space, ch 4, sl st in the 2nd ch from hook, ch 2*, repeat to end of round.

Eyes: With a sewing needle and black thread, sew 2 black buttons in the middle of the head.

Nose: With a yarn needle, use a piece of orange yarn to stitch an oval shape below the eyes.

Mouth: With a yarn needle and black embroidery floss or yarn, stitch a smile in place.

Optional: Lightly stuff the head section.

With a yarn needle and white yarn, weave in and out of sts of the last hdc round at the neck. Pull the yarn snug to cinch in the neck. Secure the yarn.
