My favorite part about where I live is that we have 4 distinct seasons. It wasn’t until my kids moved to warmer climates that I realized this is unique. I thought it got cool and leaves changed everywhere in October, Christmas (or close to it) was white with snow, things stayed dreary until flowers bloomed in the spring and summers were extremely dry and hot.
Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. It means the weather gets cooler, leaves change and we get back to a schedule. Fruit stands are full of pumpkins and apples and one magical day I’ll walk out my front door and see snow on the tops of the Rocky Mountains. I am thankful for time we get to spend with family and people seem to focus on helping others.
Fall in Northern Utah can be unpredictable. You never know when that big snow storm will hit. Some years, like last, we get a ton of snow and others seem more mild. But one thing is for sure, January is really cold, windy and grey. Even though it will get really cold and icy soon, I am thankful it kills off the bugs so they don’t just keep growing and get huge like at my son’s house in North Carolina.
Just when it starts to feel like the world is in black and white, spring is just around the corner. Again, the season changes just in time and color fills the world and everything comes back to life.
Summer makes me thankful for air conditioning, fresh fruit, a slight breeze, listening to children giggle, memories of watching and coaching a TON of soccer games and my dad’s bbq’d hamburgers.
I am thankful for many things and need to remind myself more often than just at Thanksgiving each year. I have really enjoyed this event and reading what the other designers have written. I hope you have too. I hope this upcoming week is peaceful and full of wonderful moments for us all.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
