Free Pattern: Sunny Brimmed Cloche

Sunny Brimmed Cloche

Materials:

Yarn: Worsted weight cotton
Hooks: G, H, I, J hooks (depending on size of hat, see below)
Yarn needle
Stitch Marker
Note:

All sizes start the same, but using a different size hook.
The pattern has four sizes; newborn, toddler, child, teen/adult. A smaller size hook should be used to make the smaller version of each of these sizes. For preemies, use an F hook and eliminate amount of shell rows depending on how tiny the baby is.
Hook suggestions:
*Newborn sizes: 0-6 mths newborn use G hook, 6-18 mths use H Hook
Toddler/child sizes: 2T-4T use H hook, 5T-8T use I Hook
Teen/adult sizes: preteen and teen use I hook, adult use J hook

*Pattern is written for newborn sizes 0-18 mths, with ALL larger sizes in ( ).

Directions for all sizes:
Using main color yarn, ch 4, join to form ring.
1. Dc 15 (17) in first ch, join with a sl st to beginning ch4.
2. Ch 4, (dc, ch 1) in each st around, join. 16(18 dc)
3. Ch 2, 2dc first ch space. 3dc (creates shell) in each ch space from previous round.
4. Sl st to first space between shells. Ch 2, 2 dc in first space. Ch 1. (3 dc, ch 1) in each space to end of round, join.
5-9 (5-10). Repeat previous round.

Brim
10-11 (11-12). Ch 1, sc in each st around, join. Caution: this will affect the size of the hat. Be careful not to crochet too tightly. 64 (72 sts).
12 (13). Ch 1. Sc in 3 sts, 2sc in next, repeat to end of round, join. 80 (90 sts).
13 (14). Ch 1, sc in each st around, join.

Continue to sc for the amount of rounds for desired size. (Note: amount of rounds includes initial 4 sc “brim” rounds).

Newborn: 7 rounds sc. (depending on size of baby)
Toddler: 7-8 rounds sc.
Child – adult: 8-10 rounds sc.
Weave in ends.

OPTIONAL edge stitching
Cut a long piece of contrasting yarn. Using a yarn needle, weave through bottom stitches of hat (see photo). Weave in ends.

Embellishments: Sew a button on the hat and slip a “Fast and Fun Flower” over the button. Make a few flowers in different colors for matching a variety of outfits. This makes a really fun gift.
