Free Pattern: Scrubby Yarn Review and Flower Scrubbers

Free pattern and yarn review

Last week Red Heart Yarns sent me some Scrubby yarn to try. At first glance it looks like a cross between fur and a brillo pad! I actually squealed when I saw the bright colors and even the names, such as ducky, ocean and grape are fun too. I couldn’t wait to start playing with it.

flower dot scrubbies

Since I have been working on scrubbies each week, this was the perfect yarn for me. Because of the texture, I wanted to make something easy to hold while scrubbing.

These simple flowers whipped up quickly (less than 30 minutes each) and were easy to make. I enjoyed the yarn and it was surprisingly soft to work with. It goes a long way too! I could make a ton of these scrubbies out of two skeins.

Another interesting thing about this yarn is that it is heavier than what I expected. I think these little scrubbies will be super strong, like the super heroes of dish cleaning.

Suggestions for working with the yarn

The label calls for an I hook, but I chose to use an H for a more dense scrubby. Either hook would be great tho.

Make sure you have good lighting, especially for the darker colors, so you can see your stitches. It isn’t “hard” to see the stitches, just not as easy as regular acrylic yarn.

Scrubby yarn doesn’t slide like regular acrylic yarn so I would start round projects with a chain and join into a loop instead of a magic loop/circle
