Free Pattern: A Sweet Super Scarf You Will Love

Update: I really like the open weave of this scarf and think it would be beautiful out of worsted weight yarn too. Use your favorite yarn and appropriate size hook for a smaller version of this super scarf.

Super scarves are the new BIG thing. This month Red Heart Yarns is featuring awesome super scarves in a blog hop. I am SUPER excited to join in the fun.

Since some seem like carrying around a lapghan, I have to admit I’ve been on the fence about them. Now, don’t get me wrong, wearing a lapghan would totally come in handy. Mid day naps and warmth in super cold climates.

This month Red Heart Yarns is featuring awesome super scarves in a blog hop. I am SUPER excited to join in the fun…and then I started researching these gigantic scarves.

It doesn’t get that cold where I am and I don’t really have a neck to pull off scarves. I was determined to create one that was lighter weight, but still super scarfy. I hope you will love my creation.

Materials

Yarn: 2.5 skeins (224 yards) Red Heart Sweet Yarn in rust (or desired color), small amounts of worsted weight yarn to match (fringe – optional)

Crochet Hook: Q

Skill level: easy with basic crochet skills

Measurements: 10′ x 10″

Custom size: made the scarf any length. For custom width: start with a chain in multiples of 3, plus one for the turning chain.

Directions

  1. With Q hook and yarn, ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.
  2. Ch 3, turn, sk 2, sc in next st, ch 3, sk 2, sc in next st, repeat to end of row.
  3. Ch 3, turn, sc in first space from previous row, ch 3, sc in next space, repeat to end of row. (4 spaces)
  4. Repeat row 3 until scarf is desired length.

  5. At end for scarf work the following: Ch 1, turn, 2sc in first space, sc in st from previous row, 2sc in next space, sc in st from previous row, repeat to end of row. (12sts)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Fringe (optional): cut several strands of worsted weight yarn approximately 18″ long. I used Red Heart Aran Fleck and Red Heart Fall. Holding 3 strands of each color (6 strands total), fold the strands in half and pull the center loops through a spot at the end of the scarf. Pull the ends through the loop and pull snug. Repeat across each short end of scarf.
