Free Pattern: Snappy Square

A couple of years ago, I made this square to be added to a blanket for a favorite person. I ran across it and decided to finally post the pattern. Designed as a 12” square but would be a nice trivet or strong cloth too.

Snappy Block

Materials and Details

Yarn: worsted weight in choice of colors.
Sample: Red Heart Yarns Turqua, White, Shocking Pink, Spring Green, Pumpkin.

Hook: I

Miscellaneous: yarn needle for weaving in ends.

Measurements: 12” square

Tips

  • The first stitch of each row is worked into the same st as the turning chain.
  • Stitch counts remain the same unless noted at end of row.
  • Pattern is written with color changes for the sample. Finish off each yarn when changing colors.
  • Substitute colors as desired. Try to use similar weight yarns, preferably all the same brand.
  • The repeat calls for “tr in next st, sc in next st” and creates a small puff. These rows are worked from the wrong side of the piece so the puff ends up on the right side.
