Free Pattern: Raspberry Lemonade Hand Towel

Since my first hanging hand towel has been so popular, I have designed a few more. I love using them because my dog can’t steal them and I always have one where one is needed. I hope you will like this one too.

Instructions

Directions

Tip: Make sure your beginning chain is not too snug. If you tend to chain a little tighter you might want to use one size larger hook and then change back.

  1. With H hook and yarn, ch 43, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (42sts)
  2. Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, hdc in next st, *sc in next st, hdc in next st*, repeat to end of row.
  3. Repeat step 2 until cloth is desired length (not including handle), approximately 11”/ 36 rows.

Regular dish cloth (without hanger) stop here. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row. Finish off and weave in ends.

  1. At desired length, ch 1, turn, *sc 5, sc2tog*, repeat to end of row. (36sts)
  2. Ch 1, turn, *sc 7, sc2tog*, repeat to end of row. (32sts)
  3. Ch 1, turn, *sc 6, sc2tog*, repeat to end of row. (28sts)
  4. Ch 1, turn, *sc 5, sc2tog*, repeat to end of row. (24sts)
  5. Do not turn. This step creates the folded top. Sl st into first st of row to join into a circle (see first two photos below). Ch 1, sc in same st and in ea st to end of round. Do not join. Skip over ch. Sc in first st of round. Sc 5.
  6. At this point, you should be at the edge of the cloth with the opening in the middle. If not, adjust by taking or removing a few sc sts. Flatten the top, creating 2 layers (see last two photos below).
Work the following sts through both sts, front layer and back layer, at the same time.
Ch 1, sc in each st to end of row. (12sts)

10-13. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.

  1. This step starts the handle and is worked across only 4 sts. Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, sc 3.
  2. Repeat step 14 for a total of 34 rows (approximately 7” long) or longer if desired. The handle
creates a 3.5” loop when buttoned. You may want a longer handle if you will be hanging it from a
wide item. Make sure to end on the wrong side/back of piece. This is the side with the open slit.
  3. Ch 1, turn. At this point you should have the right side towards you. If not, work one more row.
This step creates the button hole. Sc 2, ch 5, sc 2. Note: If you have a bigger button you
would like to use, create a longer chain.
  4.  Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st, sk 1, sc 6 around ch, sc in last st.
  5. Do not turn. This step is worked down the inner side of the handle. Sc in same st. Sc evenly down
side of handle and in each st across top of cloth.
  6. Ch 1, turn, sl st in each st across top of cloth, up side of handle and loosely across rounded tip of
handle. Sl st evenly down outer edge of handle to where main cloth begins. Finish off and weave
         in ends.

Button: The button is sewn in the upper right corner of the front side of the cloth. With a sewing needle and thread, securely sew the button in place.

Thanks for crocheting with me!
